CCAMA Year End Awards For 2018

2019 Annual meeting, banquet and 2018 awards.

Hello everyone,

I really enjoyed seeing all of you at the annual meeting banquet and awards. I brought my deviled ducks eggs and there was ham, ribs, and chicken, potato salads, pasta salads, cookies, and cake.

As I walked by Red Salisbury,
he struck a very nice pose. Click*

I gave Charles Canhan his DVD of all his pulls from 2011-2018 and also showed Rosemary Christensen her article here on CCAMA  in our series, Women on Tractors. Click on the  purple links below if you haven't seen the articles yet.

Women on Tractors contributors:
Rosemary Christensen.

Junes Salisbury

Here are the year end awards for 2018.

Our President, John Kirkland gave me a list of award recipients. I was to locate photos I had of each person on the tractor they drove and preferably pulling the sled. Each photo needed to be turned into a pdf file. A pdf file is a file format that provides an electronic image of text or text and graphics that looks like a printed document and can be viewed, printed, and electronically transmitted. Then the photos would be printed on metal trophies.

Just a note:
I do really enjoy documenting, recording, and chronicling with my camera and with written testimony so those photos and videos I took were there for a good purpose. And that feels pretty good. And Bill DeSilva, our co-photographer, saved the day with his photograph of wife, Donna. Whew*

Watch Video of the awards below. It is 11:35 minutes.

See in the image below of (the video) June Salisbury and Rosie Kirkland are handing out the new trophies which had the winners' photo printed on them. There were holes in each corner for mounting on the wall. It was such a unique and different way to make trophies. You can see everyone holding up and showing off their award in the video.

June,
Could you please send out to everyone.

We have been instructed to park our tractors at the fairgrounds in the triangular field bordered on the west by N 3rd east st and on the south by Clinic Way.
The east end is marked by traffic cones and four big rocks. All tractors should be west of that point.
This is about 100 yards west of where we normally park so we’re going to be jammed up a bit. In order to have room left to park our trucks and trailers we may have to make two rows of tractors .
So much as possible please try to not waste space and leave as much room as possible for others.

Billy

CCAMA Caravan 2017 Photos

The tractor caravan pulled over after I took the first video.
Riding in the tractor caravan on a wagon pulled by an Allis Chalmers has always been such fun. I love the slow pace, the wind in my face and the rugged jiggles and bucks of the wagon over the cow catchers. There is time to enjoy the landscapes and let your mind wander.  Taking a picture or a video was a bit shaky though and the view in front and back really did not change much.

This year I took my truck and followed the route of the caravan and took photos and video as they came rumbling up the Minersville Highway.  I stopped several times along the way pulling over to the side of the highway. I would get out of the truck hook my keys to my belt loops, grab my camera, and wait for the sound of the tractor engines. Many times I could hear them before I could see them. I love that sound. After they passed all was quiet. I could hear was the resonance of the earth and the denizens of the valley.

My first stop was Minersville Highway at Mid Valley Road. I pulled over, got out, and walked around the corner onto the highway to see if they were coming yet. Way off in the distance I could see the flashing yellow lights of the two volunteer sheriff trucks which led the tractors and also brought up the rear. I had time to find my place along the highway and found that the marker stakes made a really good tripod. There was a field of alfalfa and wild sunflowers and the sound of the water spraying over the fields.

CCAMA Tractor Caravan on Minersville Highway.
As they crossed the intersection they all pulled over. I passed them in my truck and drove to another place by a very picturesque abandoned farm with a rock fence bordering the property (see photo above).

My favorite photos are of the caravan approaching the Parowan Gap.

You can enjoy all the Caravan photos I took here on this link  https://goo.gl/photos/7zprkxRKjZHetWkz8

CCAMA Meeting & Awards Slideshow

Hello Friends,

I am happy it is spring because it means I get to see you all at the events. I get most inspired after these meetings we have in February. After the winter break, I am ready to meet up with you all again and here the schedule and plans for the year. It is time to get those tractors rolling, pulling and parading.

The food was  delicious. I had my appetite set for those Dutch oven potatoes. Everything; the main dishes, the salads and desserts and company was great!

The officers were unanimously voted in for another year. Each and everyone of them do such a great job.  Thank you.

I learned a few things too. Our club is praised for the weighing in before the events and for the programs printed out by June Salisbury. I never knew how important that was.

Here is the slideshow of the meeting and awards. Click this link

“Good farmers, who take seriously their duties as stewards of Creation and of their land's inheritors, contribute to the welfare of society in more ways than society usually acknowledges, or even knows. These farmers produce valuable goods, of course; but they also conserve soil, they conserve water, they conserve wildlife, they conserve open space, they conserve scenery.”

Cedar Livestock Festival Tractor & Draft Horse Pull 2015 PART 1

Cedar Livestock Festival was amazing, fast paced, exciting and full of action ! One after the other the tractors and pullers and draft horses with teams gave us their all. The engines rumbled through our flesh, the chains clanked and hoofs thundered on the earth and the crowds just roared !

The following video is Part 1, a  full account of this event with these giant gorgeous draft horses and your awesome vintage tractors. I forgot to grab a program and counted on the announcers content to explain names of pullers and models, year, FS or FS+. June sent me a program but I do not have Office to open it up and Sheridan has one for me if I need it. I learn a lot about identifying your names and about your tractors from these programs.

CCAMA has A Store On ZAZZLE !

John Kirkland our CCAMA President gave me the okee dokee and I have
begun a CCAMA store which has endless possibilities. All royalties go to CCAMA. a great way to support your club and I welcome any ideas or photographs you would like on a mug, card, poster or most any product offered by ZAZZLE.

Paul Moen found this tractor in Torrey, Utah. Allis Chalmers vintage tractor Model W Speed Patrol Grader could fit industrial applications. Besides using them for street maintenance, small construction companies used these for road and driveway construction from 1940-1949. By 1949 there were over 3,700 of these made. This image is also on the t-shirt where a pocket might be and has the name and model written below the image. This comes with a variety of shirt designs and colors to choose from.

I am designing everyday and Zazzle has a sale on everyday. For today November 12, Zazzle is taking 60% off T-Shirts and 20% overall on other items.  Most items are able to be customized that means you can "x" out the original image and text and put on your own and CCAMA will still get that royalty from what you purchase. Also if you enter through our links from this CCAMA site you can shop all over Zazzle and CCAMA will still get a royalty even if it was not bought in our  store.

You couldn't ask for a nicer day then this. The grandstands were full and the participants in the pull and the safety team were amazing to watch.

John Kirkland explained the basic safety procedure of tractor pull. ( paraphrased as close as I could )

When they flag you stop. Let them hook you up. Put your hands in the air, after you put it into neutral, feet on the brake, hands in the air. They will hook you and when they give you the OK you can tighten the chain and begin your pull. Watch the flagman all the time cause if there are any problems, when he flags you off you need to stop. He will stop you when you get to the end. When you unhook, you back your tractor up, take her out of gear, put on the brake and your hands in the air again and the flagman will tell you when you're clear.

Kip Hansen thanked the Iron County Fair royalty that was with us which was followed by a big applause. Kip continues:

Our organization that we're a part of here is with the Color Country Antique Machinery Association. Now color country, you people, you live here, you understand we live in color country. But us tractors guys, color means something else entirely different than that. If you're an old tractor guy, generally you have your color. And some of us, they don't usually ask you what kind of tractor do you have, they ask, "What color do you do?"  You know there is John Deere green and Farmall red, and of course we don't want to forget Allis Chalmer's brilliant orange; Minneapolis Moline's prairie gold... Oliver meadow green, so its about the colors too but the most important colors are the colors of our nation, the red, white, and blue and I think it would be appropriate before we go on through the program right now that everyone right now turn and face the flag......

Everyone stood and faced our American flag. The sound of our voices  were then heard  as we recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Annette Hansen gave us the Invocation, Opening Prayer which affirmed and brought together a diversified crowd of people and made whole our event.

David Christensen did a great job as announcer and fostered participation and showmanship with the drivers and the crowd as well as easy to understand information about the pull and the tractors for the crowd.  I was thrilled how the drivers waved to the crowd and hearing the roar of the crowd.

June Salisbury, our Secretary, took care of everything from recording the distances, to handing out the ribbons and trophies and more. The beautiful trophies were given to us by the City of Parowan. Rosie Kirkland, our Treasurer is working right there with June helping to make this a wonderful event for you all.

THANK YOU !

CCAMA Tractor Caravan 2015 Cedar City to Parowan via Parowan Gap.
www.ccama.blogspot.com
I love riding in these caravans.
Traveling that distance, 28.5 miles, with the wind blowing in your face, the tractor engines roaring and the beautiful country of Utah all around you is exhilarating !

Click on the picture to make it larger.

And speaking of wind, I had to add some music to the videos because of it. And I am so glad I did. With the music and the flags waving it is really inspirational.  You got to see and share these videos.

Next time I am sitting on some bales of hay in the wagon so I can swivel and capture the video and photographs more quickly. It was suggested that I use an office chair with a swivel and maybe rollers. That would be fun.

They say if you are a follower, the view never changes. Well that is not always true cause the landscapes during this caravan were ever changing and yes, there was that one XL blue gingham shirt of my husband's always in view but I like that shirt and what is in it. I enjoy riding in that hay wagon too.

The video is snippets along the route to Parowan Gap and part 2 is from the Gap to Parowan.

Right now I am waiting for the music to load up onto the videos and I am so excited for you all to see how wonderful an event this all is. I am toe tapping right now in anticipation.
