A beautiful Day at the Cedar Livestock Festival.

It was a beautiful day for a great CCAMA event with lots of  vintage tractors and expert drivers. There were a few first timers and they did real good. This event features draft horse and tractor pulls one after the other.

The videos were took from the grandstand. While watching these videos you may get a feel of what it must look like to the audience.

Dannie Farley is about to pull this 1946 Farmall A. Her family Danny Oldroyd and Dale Brady is right there for support and encouragement.

A Great Day With CCAMA

Part of the Work Party / Test and Tune Saturday April 13

CCAMA members with tools, red dust on the backs and arms of their shirt, the smell of axle grease and the loud roar of the air compressor made the Work Party scene yesterday. I saw Leroy in his tool box looking and sorting for tools, Kevin Peiksma put on the training wheels of the sled with the help of John Kirkland Jr. and Paul Moen filled up the tanks of the sled with water. I posted the photos and video I took on Facebook.CCAMA Facebook Page

Watch Video below of Kevin Peiksma and John Kirkland Jr. putting on the training wheels of the tractor sled.

Everyone had a different task and duty. I had the pleasure of talking with Sheridan and Kip Hansen about Internet, the world, and emails, and children. We laughed and laughed. I must have slapped my knee 10 times. It was the first time I heard Kip laugh. Both father and son have delightful laughs.

CCAMA provided lunch for us all.

Red Salisbury cooking hamburgers and hot dogs with helper of David Shireman.

June Salisbury setting up at the table and members line up for lunch.

June Salisbury was setting out all the fixings, the macaroni and potato salad and chips for lunch.

Lunch time during the work party / test and tune event.

After lunch I interview Rosie Kirkland for our series Women on Tractors. I enjoyed speaking with her and got to learn a bit more about her.

Thank you for visiting CCAMA,

Until next time, mark your calenders for the next event Cotton Days Parade and Tractor Pull April 27 2019.

Iron County Fair Parade 2018

I drove to Parowan and took photos of our members lined up for the parade. It was a beautiful day.

This adorable boy is sitting a Hansen Allis Chalmer's
before the parade.

After taking pictures, I walked out onto the parade route where the crowds were gathering. I found a nice tree to stand near and waited for the tractors to make their appearance. After all the horses, bands, and cloggers went by, I heard the rumbling of engines and spotted the Allis Chalmers orange of Sherian's tractor. I caught CCAMA in full on video.

Here is the link for the shared album on Google Photos. You will see the photos before the parade and the video of CCAMA in the parade

Iron County Fair Tractor Pull Awards 2018

Hello  Everyone !

The Tractor Pulls were a success ! The stormy weather and rains passed. The track and pulls were smooth as silk.

I would like to share a few pictures with you in this post. Mind you, I took pictures of all the participants and plan to put them in a shared album on Google for all to see.

First off, I would like to present our youngest participant, Nicholas Hall. He is or going to be 12 years old this year. You may want to read all about his first time pulling back in April 2017 at the Test and Tune. He was 10 years old.  To read about Nicholas, click on this link ( the underlined blue type)

https://ccama.blogspot.com/2017/04/first-time-driver-test-2017.html

Here is a recent photo of Nicholas with his trophy from Monday night at the Iron County Fair. He and his father, Andrew Hall drove their 1948 Case LA in the 7500-8000 lbs Class and Nicholas went the farthest. Well this picture speaks for itself.

Nicholas Hall hold his first place trophy.

Rosemary Christensen caught my eye with her wheels off the track 3 times at the end of her pull. She has that big shiny red 1958 Farmall 450. Here is her picture.

Kip Hansen passed the baton, I mean microphone, to my husband, Paul Moen after his last pull. Though Paul looked a bit faint at first, once he got the mic, he was a natural.

Sheridan Hansen turned 84 today September 5, Happy Birthday !!! Here is a picture of him during one of his pulls, Monday.

A Rich History Remembered: CCAMA Vintage Tractor Caravan

CCAMA spnsored vintage tractor caravan,
Labor Day Weekend.
Going over the Summit, Utah overpass.

The caravan of vintage tractors traveled along Old Highway 91 from Cedar City, Utah to Lyon's Park in Parowan under clear blue skies. Some hats blew off along the way but were quickly retrieved. It was a great ride !

The vintage tractor caravan rolled along
Old Highway 91.

Imagine driving 7 mph down a highway.

Enjoying the wild sunflowers along the roadside.

Taking in the scent of summer grasses and shrubs.

Studying the variegated blues of distant mountains.

Hearing the American flags flapping in the breezes, the rumbling of the vintage tractors...

Time to reflect, inspired to dream a bit, and perhaps moved to appreciate your life.

Sheridan Hansen, our caravan organizer, said something at our break in Summit, Utah that I had not thought of before.  By doing the caravan we remember our predecessors who drove and worked on these tractors back in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's. and keep it alive for people in the future to enjoy.
It made me look deeper into the history of the farm tractor.

The farm tractor is one of the most important and easily recognizable technological components of modern agriculture in the United States. Its development in the first half of the twentieth century fundamentally changed the nature of farm work, significantly altered the structure of rural America, and freed up millions of workers to be absorbed into the rapidly growing manufacturing and service sectors of the country. The tractor represents an important application of the internal combustion engine, rivaling the automobile and the truck in its economic impact.

A tractor is basically a machine that provides machine power for performing agricultural tasks. Tractors can be used to pull a variety of farm implements for plowing, planting, cultivating, fertilizing, and harvesting crops, and can also be used for hauling materials and personal transportation. In the provision of motive power, tractors were a replacement for human effort and that of draft animals, both of which are still used extensively in other parts of the world. You can read more here: Economic History of Tractors in the United States
William J. White, Research Triangle Institute

At a time when farms are out of sight and out of mind for most people in the US, it makes events like this caravan very important to educate and inspire children and adults who would otherwise never know where their food comes from. there is also the being outdoors and puting your hands in the soil and on and on I could go.

Not only is the caravan fun but doing this will keep a rich history of these tractors and the people who drove them alive.

John Kirkland driving his 1954 Allis Chalmers G in the CCAMA sponsored Tractor Pull at the Cedar Livestock and Heritage Festival 2011.

It's here, the last event of the year. The Cedar Livestock & Heritage Festival is something I look forward to every year. I have said this before and I will say it again, I love the sound of the tractors warming up and getting a hearty whiff of the fumes coming out of those vintage tractor engines, those American flags waving in the breezes and this feeling of inspired action as I grab my camera, get down in the dirt and chronicle the whole thing.

Sheridan Hansen pulls his Allis Chalmers a the Cedar Livestock & Heritage Festival 2011.

This is as rural and rustic as it gets! Dutch oven contest, sheep coming down Main Street, a great parade, CCAMA sponsored tractor pull, rodeo, cowboy poetry, draft horse pulls, vendors, and a dirt dance to top it off.

I take photographs of most everyone and if you want me to take a video or photograph let me know. I will be there to take your requests.
