CCAMA Videos The Cedar Livestock Festival 2019

A beautiful Day at the Cedar Livestock Festival.

It was a beautiful day for a great CCAMA event with lots of  vintage tractors and expert drivers. There were a few first timers and they did real good. This event features draft horse and tractor pulls one after the other.

The videos were took from the grandstand. While watching these videos you may get a feel of what it must look like to the audience.

Dannie Farley is about to pull this 1946 Farmall A. Her family Danny Oldroyd and Dale Brady is right there for support and encouragement.

Cotton Days Field Trip 2019 - CCAMA More Then Tractors

Leroy Brady and Danny Oldroid effectively demonstrate how to process corn and wheat and even par apples with vintage machinery.

Color Country Antique Machinery Association Volunteers

As spectators at the CCAMA events, we see the rugged exterior of men and women who drive these tractors. The more I photograph and interview these CCAMA members the more I see their humanity. The more I attend the CCAMA events,  meetings, potlucks, caravans, and parades, the more I learn.

The Cotton Days Field Trip in Washington, Utah, was no different. I left a changed person. Volunteers from CCAMA demonstrated nothing less than humanness, patience, and kindness, while sharing and shedding light on what it was like when the city of Washington began. They manned their stations prepared with visuals and hands on projects and artifacts. They spoke clearly, slowly, and gently. They added their own sense of humor and drama.

The volunteers showed the children how to grind corn and wheat, how to pare an apple with one turn of a handle, what ranchers used out on the prairies to keep the snakes from crawling into their sleeping bag, how to plant cotton, how to make a fire,  how to make sorghum molasses and even had a sample of real sorghum molasses drizzled on cookies which tasted so delicious, like nothing you could buy at a regular grocery store.  There was a wonderful discussion on what it was like to live back in those days and how it compares to life today. I saw children lifting a hand cart to get the feel of how strong you needed to be to handle one of those carts, I saw women dressed in their long pioneer dresses showing the old time washboards, and the many kitchen aide gadgets from long ago all of which were laid out on cow hides.

Rosie Kirkland puts her heart and soul into this event

Each presenter did their presentation for 7 minutes, for 14 groups !, After the 7 minutes a horn blew and the groups departed to the next station.  That includes the ice cream station. Volunteers scooped and served hundreds of ice creams in cups to groups of 20-30+ coming from a presentation.

The Ice Cream Stand with some CCAMA members Paul Moen and Rosemary Christensen.

The whole event was a buzz of color, sound, laughter, smiles with sweet chorals of  "THANK YOU ! " from the children after each presentation. It was rhythmic and timely. Beautifully organized.

See for yourself. I photographed and shot highlights of this event. If you have not yet seen this side of CCAMA then you are in for a treat ! Watch video here.

WE HAD A GREAT EVENT !
YOU ALL LOOK SO GOOD OUT THERE.

Did you have a good time? The weather was perfect, beautiful blue skies with wispy clouds. Look how Bill Desilva captured the sky and the tractors at the Diamond Arena in this photo he took.

Vintage Tractor Show at the Cedar Livestock & heritage Festival 2018

There are many people who make this event a success. Let us give a hand for these ladies who keep this event running smoothly as you are all weighing in and pulling your tractors. I saw them from across the arena and I just had to get a picture of them. I shuffled through the dirt weaving in and out of draft horses and tractors and made my way to their table where they perform their wonders.

Donna DeSilva, Rosie Kirkland, and Rosemary Christensen

This is a job not many people can do. It requires focus and constant attention to details. They keep track of your pulls, and fill out your ribbons, and keep it all organized in everyway possible.  And on top of all that, they manage to stand in for each other to pull their tractors! Amazing.

I enjoyed photographing you all and have quite a few videos. You can see the first batch of photographs I have uploaded on the Cedar Livestock Festival 2018 CCAMA album right here at  Google Photos.

CCAMA Iron County Fair Parade 2018

Iron County Fair Parade 2018

I drove to Parowan and took photos of our members lined up for the parade. It was a beautiful day.

This adorable boy is sitting a Hansen Allis Chalmer's
before the parade.

After taking pictures, I walked out onto the parade route where the crowds were gathering. I found a nice tree to stand near and waited for the tractors to make their appearance. After all the horses, bands, and cloggers went by, I heard the rumbling of engines and spotted the Allis Chalmers orange of Sherian's tractor. I caught CCAMA in full on video.

Here is the link for the shared album on Google Photos. You will see the photos before the parade and the video of CCAMA in the parade

You couldn't ask for a nicer day then this. The grandstands were full and the participants in the pull and the safety team were amazing to watch.

John Kirkland explained the basic safety procedure of tractor pull. ( paraphrased as close as I could )

When they flag you stop. Let them hook you up. Put your hands in the air, after you put it into neutral, feet on the brake, hands in the air. They will hook you and when they give you the OK you can tighten the chain and begin your pull. Watch the flagman all the time cause if there are any problems, when he flags you off you need to stop. He will stop you when you get to the end. When you unhook, you back your tractor up, take her out of gear, put on the brake and your hands in the air again and the flagman will tell you when you're clear.

Kip Hansen thanked the Iron County Fair royalty that was with us which was followed by a big applause. Kip continues:

Our organization that we're a part of here is with the Color Country Antique Machinery Association. Now color country, you people, you live here, you understand we live in color country. But us tractors guys, color means something else entirely different than that. If you're an old tractor guy, generally you have your color. And some of us, they don't usually ask you what kind of tractor do you have, they ask, "What color do you do?"  You know there is John Deere green and Farmall red, and of course we don't want to forget Allis Chalmer's brilliant orange; Minneapolis Moline's prairie gold... Oliver meadow green, so its about the colors too but the most important colors are the colors of our nation, the red, white, and blue and I think it would be appropriate before we go on through the program right now that everyone right now turn and face the flag......

Everyone stood and faced our American flag. The sound of our voices  were then heard  as we recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Annette Hansen gave us the Invocation, Opening Prayer which affirmed and brought together a diversified crowd of people and made whole our event.

David Christensen did a great job as announcer and fostered participation and showmanship with the drivers and the crowd as well as easy to understand information about the pull and the tractors for the crowd.  I was thrilled how the drivers waved to the crowd and hearing the roar of the crowd.

June Salisbury, our Secretary, took care of everything from recording the distances, to handing out the ribbons and trophies and more. The beautiful trophies were given to us by the City of Parowan. Rosie Kirkland, our Treasurer is working right there with June helping to make this a wonderful event for you all.

THANK YOU !

Kanab, Utah Post CCAMA Parade Video

John Kirkland and his two granddaughters after the parade in Kanab, Utah
www.ccama.blogspot.com
To see this club on their tractors is such an inspiration. You can tell in an instant the care they have put into their tractors and the desire to share these beautiful machines with the public. Smiles and waves to greet you and American flags waving in the breezes. It is a sight to see. The sounds of their motors and the clanking and vibrating of the metal and all the history that goes along with these vintage tractors is surely and event.

I missed the actual parade and so did hundreds of other people who may have not even known it was happening. So next year just wait and see. We can make sure they do know.

Alas I got to see them coming around the corner as they entered onto the parade route. We were on our way to the where the tractor pull was. I grabbed my camera and took some shots but the window was glaring and dusty.

We pulled into the old junior high football field and I ran down the road to see if I could catch them and I saw them coming in off the road. I got to see them all in their tractor regalia, American flags and dogs and grandchildren. So here's CCAMA after the parade.

This is the wonderful thing about living in the country. We usually do not use addresses just landmarks. I prefer it this way but I do need to pin point the location. anyone know where the old junior high is in Kanab? The tractor pull is behind the Western Legends roundup Headquarters. Look for a brick building and Parry Lodge is across the street.  ( 100 E) . That is what they said.

Tractor pull begins at 9 am after the parade.

The parade at high noon is not for vehicles.

The beginning of the parade is announced and the moment arrives when you can hear the rumbling of the tractors and see the American flags unfolding and waving in the winds. The long line of CCAMA members came one by one down the hill with their children and grandchildren and dogs riding right up there with them. They smiled and waved as they drove by. It was an inspirational sight to see and a heartfelt patriotic feeling.
