CCAMA Caravan 2017 Photos

The tractor caravan pulled over after I took the first video.
Riding in the tractor caravan on a wagon pulled by an Allis Chalmers has always been such fun. I love the slow pace, the wind in my face and the rugged jiggles and bucks of the wagon over the cow catchers. There is time to enjoy the landscapes and let your mind wander.  Taking a picture or a video was a bit shaky though and the view in front and back really did not change much.

This year I took my truck and followed the route of the caravan and took photos and video as they came rumbling up the Minersville Highway.  I stopped several times along the way pulling over to the side of the highway. I would get out of the truck hook my keys to my belt loops, grab my camera, and wait for the sound of the tractor engines. Many times I could hear them before I could see them. I love that sound. After they passed all was quiet. I could hear was the resonance of the earth and the denizens of the valley.

My first stop was Minersville Highway at Mid Valley Road. I pulled over, got out, and walked around the corner onto the highway to see if they were coming yet. Way off in the distance I could see the flashing yellow lights of the two volunteer sheriff trucks which led the tractors and also brought up the rear. I had time to find my place along the highway and found that the marker stakes made a really good tripod. There was a field of alfalfa and wild sunflowers and the sound of the water spraying over the fields.

As they crossed the intersection they all pulled over. I passed them in my truck and drove to another place by a very picturesque abandoned farm with a rock fence bordering the property (see photo above).

My favorite photos are of the caravan approaching the Parowan Gap.
