Cedar Livestock and Heritage Festival 2017

John Kirkland driving his 1954 Allis Chalmers G in the CCAMA sponsored Tractor Pull at the Cedar Livestock and Heritage Festival 2011.

It's here, the last event of the year. The Cedar Livestock & Heritage Festival is something I look forward to every year. I have said this before and I will say it again, I love the sound of the tractors warming up and getting a hearty whiff of the fumes coming out of those vintage tractor engines, those American flags waving in the breezes and this feeling of inspired action as I grab my camera, get down in the dirt and chronicle the whole thing.

Sheridan Hansen pulls his Allis Chalmers a the Cedar Livestock & Heritage Festival 2011.

This is as rural and rustic as it gets! Dutch oven contest, sheep coming down Main Street, a great parade, CCAMA sponsored tractor pull, rodeo, cowboy poetry, draft horse pulls, vendors, and a dirt dance to top it off.

I take photographs of most everyone and if you want me to take a video or photograph let me know. I will be there to take your requests.

Psst... Women on Tractors Series coming soon.

Thank you for visiting CCAMA, ( 14,275 page views !)
Until next time, hope to see you there!

CCAMA Caravan 2017 Photos

The tractor caravan pulled over after I took the first video.
Riding in the tractor caravan on a wagon pulled by an Allis Chalmers has always been such fun. I love the slow pace, the wind in my face and the rugged jiggles and bucks of the wagon over the cow catchers. There is time to enjoy the landscapes and let your mind wander.  Taking a picture or a video was a bit shaky though and the view in front and back really did not change much.

This year I took my truck and followed the route of the caravan and took photos and video as they came rumbling up the Minersville Highway.  I stopped several times along the way pulling over to the side of the highway. I would get out of the truck hook my keys to my belt loops, grab my camera, and wait for the sound of the tractor engines. Many times I could hear them before I could see them. I love that sound. After they passed all was quiet. I could hear was the resonance of the earth and the denizens of the valley.

My first stop was Minersville Highway at Mid Valley Road. I pulled over, got out, and walked around the corner onto the highway to see if they were coming yet. Way off in the distance I could see the flashing yellow lights of the two volunteer sheriff trucks which led the tractors and also brought up the rear. I had time to find my place along the highway and found that the marker stakes made a really good tripod. There was a field of alfalfa and wild sunflowers and the sound of the water spraying over the fields.

CCAMA Tractor Caravan on Minersville Highway.
As they crossed the intersection they all pulled over. I passed them in my truck and drove to another place by a very picturesque abandoned farm with a rock fence bordering the property (see photo above).

My favorite photos are of the caravan approaching the Parowan Gap.

Test &Tune

Today on CCAMA we are featuring Nicholas Hall.

Nicholas is 10 years old and he is a natural. I wish you all could have been there to see him drive.

His parents Andrew and Kristin Hall were there to sign him up before the tractor pulls began.

Everyone needs to know the safety rules so Paul Moen gives Nicholas the run down. Nicholas listens carefully...

Nicholas gets a thumbs up for learning the safety rules.
