We had a lot of help, great back drop of cliffs and a lot of fun. We even let a couple of our helpers try pulling the sled with their old trucks.

Nothing ends but something new begins

Well the Pulling season, according to our CCAMA calendar seems over.

Sherman and Kip Hansen reported that the Iron Country Ride had been a lot of fun.

The event last weekend in Page was an even better success than we had hoped and another is definitely in the planning stages for next year. Thoughts are for a longer outback ride, a morning and afternoon pull with a lunch break, more display items and a possible tractor sale. And we upped our memberships from Page from 5 to 8.

We had 2 full days of pulling as well as an outback ride that everyone seemed to enjoy. Most had never driven their tractors on unworked land before and found the experience a fun challenge. The weather stayed on our side for most of the time. Although a bit windy on Saturday the rain held off until we had had 6 hours of pulling and then let loose and really watered down the field making it an even better track for Sunday. Again we had 6 full hours of pulling with many of us realizing in the late afternoon that we not only hadn't eaten but hadn't had our wake up cup of coffee.

We didn't have a lot of display items but did have 2 that came from the Flagstaff area and were well received by everyone such as the "Do Nothing Machine" that Earl Wolfe brought.

You may have noticed I mentioned a tractor sale above. One thing we had not expected was the interest by the Navajo in our tractors as objects to buy. They are really in need of the small tractors for work on their property. So next year we may promote something like that either with our pull or on a separate date. Anyone have any tractors they would be interested in selling? Know many of them also mentioned parts, so it might be we could set up something on that line as well. Any ideas?

We still have some of the commemorative pins left. They sold for $3 at the show but if any of you want some for $2 each let me know.

Hope you will take note of the For Sale item Charlie has and the poster below for the Cedar City Lifestock and Heritage Festival, Oct. 26 and 27. There won't be a pull but they would sure like us in their parade and for display. Our thanks to Sheridan Hanson for sharing that with us.

As I write this many of you will be finishing up the Iron Country Run. We had hoped to be with you but Jim and Gene felt that if they were going to host a pull here in Page in another 3 weeks they had better be getting things ready.

I will be changeing the question on the poll every few weeks so be sure to check back for the next poll and more information on our club doings.

You will note that I have added the pull results from the Western Legends Pull. This was a great event for those attending. The weather was perfect for the types of events that Western Legends had planned and I think everyone attending had a good time. Winners of the pull were - Chris Wright, John Kirkland, June Salisbury, Val Cram, Rosie Kirkland, Dave Christensen and Norm Kerr.

Upcoming Events - Aug. - Sept.

This month has two great events to attend and participate in.

First the Western Legends in Kanab, UT. Aug. 24-25, 2007. Our pull will be at 9 am Saturday, Aug. 25. Be sure to preregister to help this event start on time.

August ends on the 30th with Peach Days in Hurricane.

September begins with the Iron County Fair Antiquer Tractor Ride and Show, Sept. 1-3. See schedule below. Preregistration for this event is appreciated.

After you have rested up from that be sure to attend the Page, Arizona Pull and Show. This is a first for Page and we are working hard to get things ready. Last month we attended a show and pull in Flagstaff and many of the displays are interested in attending our event so we are looking forward to quite a good showing. Jim and Gene have begun to grade and level out the area for the pull. We have been fortunate to have Big Lake Trading Post as our host site. It sits on a crossroads of Highway 98 and Coppermine Road. The adjacent corners all offer areas of free parking with plenty of room for self-contained overnight, or just a place to park your truck/trailers, etc. We are lining up raffle prizes, have ordered commemorative pins and a banner for uptown, will have a program with restaurant guide and 1st - 3rd place ribbons for our pull winners. The city has offered the use of a set of bleachers for beside the pull. It's all started to come together and interest is growing. Hope to see you there. Preregistration is appreciated. Review of Erickson's Show and Pull

Last weekend several of us had the unique opportunity to attend the Erickson Show. Thank you Dick for such a pleasant weekend!

Rosy and John were probably the first of our group to arrive on Friday and were soon put to work hauling in the guests. On Saturday Jim was able to give John a break and I enjoyed riding in the wagon as tour guide. It was neat meeting all the people who were mostly coming for the first time, like us.

The Erickson Farm is laid out much like an old town with a little bit of everytype of store, business, etc. to visit. Interspersed between all of that are his collections of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and tractors. It is a lovely valley setting surrounded with snowcovered peaks. In fact quite a bit of snow which had fallen last week when we had cold winds here in Page. By Sunday most had pretty well melted.

One of the first things they were trying to do on Friday was start up the tractor - pully - to run the saw mill. They got things going but it was turning too windy to handle the long belts that ran from the big tractor to the saw. On Saturday and Sunday the weather was perfect and everyone got the thrill of seeing this in action.

There was plenty of camper parking in the upper levels. Great food from at least 3 vendors and plenty of facilities. Dick is a very thoughtful host.

Over this next week I will be putting up a gallery of several photos of the weekend.

On Saturday there will be a tractor parade at 11, sign-up for the pull at 12 and the pull at 1pm

Pull is across the street from Ernie's on North Main.

Remember - if you know you are going to attend and plan to pull in any of our events you can register ahead by contacting June Salisbury. It is sometimes hard to get a pull set up to start on time, just because of getting everyone registered. If most of us preregistered, it would save a lot of time and events could start on schedule.

Our pull on Saturday ended with a contest between Red Salisbury's 1957 Seaman and Dick Erickson's 1958 John Deere 830. They first tied with full pulls but a rematch using both the heavy and the lighter sled had Red pulling 141' and Eric with a full pull.

We've been getting calls for information on hotels in Page for the September event. A quick check with the Chamber of Commerce http://pagelakepowellchamber.org or our local tourism Department http://www.pagelakepowelltourism.com/ may be of help. I've been told that rooms are filling up fast. I am also making arrangements for self contained trailers and R/Vs.

This weekend we are off for the Erickson Show and Pull. Hope to see you there.

Welcome to the new CCAMA blog

I'm Judy Kitson. At the February meeting I was elected to do your newsletter and also set up a web page.

My husband Jim Kitson and our good friend Gene Tucker joined the Color Country AMA last fall when they pulled during Western Legends in Kanab and I joined at the pull in La Verkin when I pulled for the first time. Wow, what a feeling. Now we are all hooked on pulling and tractors. We are even planning our first tractor pull for Page, Arizona in September. We hope to make this a yearly event.

I choose to do it as a blog spot for several reasons. The main one being it is easy, free, and allows us to put up several things as well as being accessible to anyone, so maybe we will even draw new members or at least interest in our events, etc. from it.

I do hope you will find it useful and informative and maybe even fun. I welcome any and all comments, suggestions, pictures, articles, etc. This is your space, help us make it what you want.
